In 1994, I had completed my Electrical Engineering degree and was working with Foxbro, Singapore. My major experience, at that point, was with engineering. As part of my job, I went to the USA (https://www.meritedu.co.in/education-in-usa.php) with my wife, where I got my first opportunity to work with a few students.

I had noticed a lot of talented students were making minor errors in representing themselves to their universities. I also realized that many student applications were not because of the quality of the student, but because there was a certain misrepresentation in their application. And so, I began advising students, as a hobby, on how to apply to universities. This was the first step toward making MERIT a professional engagement.

In 1997, my first year with MERIT, the study overseas education consultants Bangalore as a professional engagement, I only worked with three students. I believed this meant my venture was not going to be successful. However, the same three students contacted me and told me not to stop the work I was doing. They told me to continue this, as they felt I had played a role in changing their career path. This gave me the reassurance I needed that things would go well from next year.

In 1998, we had 60 students who signed up. From that year onwards, our student registration numbers continued to grow along with the organization.

Now, for the past few years, we have been engaging with over 200 students a year. We have helped them understand what they want for their career, get admission to universities of their choice, and get visa approvals. Our work here has changed the lives of hundreds of students, and we hope to continue making a positive impact on the world.
