Educational costs continue to rise, making it hard to fund a college education without accumulating a significant debt. Scholarship can cover many of the costs associated with undertaking a degree.
They can cover tuition fees or living costs, or provide additional academic resources (computers, books etc). They are usually offered on the basis of academic merit, but may also have an element of financial need.

Inlaks Scholarships are granted for up to 2 years at top American, European and UK institutions, for funding requirements including tuition fees, up to a maximum of $85,000 or equivalent. The scholarships are of two types: university courses and specific programs. The Foundation has joint scholarship schemes with Imperial College (London), Royal College of Art (London), School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS)(London),and London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). The Foundation does not give scholarships in the following subjects: Engineering, Computer Science, Business Studies, Medicine, Public Health, Fashion Design, Music and Film Animation. However in the case of Imperial College, London, scholarships will be given for Engineering and Computer Science. Further we will consider Indian Studies, only if they have contemporary relevance. In the field of Music, only applications for Western Classical singing degrees will be considered.

The Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation and the Imperial College, London now offer joint scholarships for PhD programmes (up to 4 years) and Masters courses. These will be available for all courses in the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Imperial. Full tuition fees and a stipend for living expenses will be covered by the scholarship.
All candidates will need to apply to the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation following normal procedure laid out in the ‘Scholarships Abroad-Inlaks Scholarships’ section on the website.
All candidates must have a firm offer of admission to the Imperial College at the time of making the application to the Foundation. The last date for applications is 15 April.

The ‘Inlaks Research Travel Grant’ offers financial support for a maximum of 3 months at a university/institution/library abroad. Are you a young person with a passion for wildlife? Do you want to use your energy and skills to make a difference to biodiversity conservation in India? The Ravi Sankaran Fellowship Program can help. This Program has been set up in memory of the late Dr. Ravi Sankaran who followed up his detailed field studies of wild species with innovative projects to conserve their populations. The activities that have an explicit focus on biodiversity conservation will be considered for this Fellowship Program.
The Ravi Sankaran Fellowship Program is an initiative of the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation. The Program funds three major activities: A Master’s degree at a university abroad- The Program will fund one or two students to work towards a 1-2 yr Masters degree in a reputed academic program in ecology or conservation.
An internship with an organisation abroad - The Program will fund one or two recipients to carry out an internship of 6 weeks to 1 year with a university research group, NGO, government agency, or other organisation, known for its work in conservation science and practice in a country other than India.
Small Grants for a short conservation research or implementation project within India – This is for a conservation research or implementation project within India: The Program will fund up to 4 recipients to carry out an initial project of up to 1 yr that is expected to lead to a longer-term conservation science and/or implementation project.

It accepts applications from candidates who are travelling abroad for advanced training in specialised areas and to participate in workshops. Students who wish to pursue postgraduate studies abroad in the field of natural sciences and humanities are also welcome to apply.
Applications for travel grants for the purpose of studies abroad should reach the Trusts’ office between the months of April and July for Fall admissions and between November and December for Spring admissions.
Applications for other categories of travel grant support may be submitted throughout the year.
Applications for the categories excluding postgraduate studies abroad, should reach the Trusts' office at least two months prior to the date of departure. Grants will be released only if all the necessary documents are submitted prior to the date of departure.

The J.N. Tata Endowment offers loan scholarships for higher studies abroad only. The loan amount (ranging between Rs.1,50,000/- and Rs.6,00,000/-) awarded to each scholar is determined by the norms laid down for the purpose and does not cover the full cost of studies. All applicants do not necessarily qualify for the maximum amount. Selected scholars may also qualify for a gift scholarship from the Jamsetji Tata Trust and a Travel Grant from the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, based on the sole discretion of the Trustees of the concerned Trusts. Scotland’s Saltire Scholarships (SSS) is a substantial programme of scholarships, offered on a matched funding basis between the Scottish Government and Scottish Higher Education Institutions. The scheme offers up to 200 awards, each worth £2000. These are towards the tuition fees, for any one year of full time study, on an Undergraduate, Masters or PhD course at any of Scotland’s higher education institutions.
The scholarships are designed to support the promotion of Scotland as a learning nation and a science nation and are therefore targeted at the priority sectors of creative industries, life sciences, technology, financial services and renewable and clean energy (find out what study options are available). The CSFP is aimed at students of Commonwealth countries who can make a significant contribution to their home country after the completion of a higher education programme in the UK.
This is a source of funding made available to all Commonwealth countries by the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission. The R D Sethna Scholarship Fund grants only loan scholarships to students who are citizens of India, regardless of community, caste or creed.
Loan scholarships are granted to enable students to undertake scientific, technical, industrial or commercial studies in India and overseas on the condition that they are repayable with interest in terms of the agreement and other documents required to be entered into and executed by applicants and their male guarantors.
Applications for loan scholarships are invited by the Trust from 1st April each year. The last date for receiving applications for overseas studies is 31 May and for local studies is 31st August each year. Only successful applicants will be informed of the grant, and no intimation will be given to unsuccessful applicants.
The person proposed as guarantor must be a male, and permanent resident in Mumbai having a monthly income of not less than Rs.10,000/- for applicants pursuing studies in India and Rs.15,000/- for applicants pursuing studies overseas.
AAA is registered as a charitable organization founded in the 1968, for the purpose of raising fund to provide grants to highly qualified students who have been accepted for advanced studies in the US at a noted university but who have some financial need. .
Award winners are selected in a rigorous round of judging first based on their written applications and then in person interviews. Each year, grant money is fund raised by the members of the AAA and awarded to qualified candidates.
Currently, the amount of the grant is INR 1,00,000 (one lac) per student (and can be changed according to the amount fundraised). It is a grant and is therefore repayable when the students completes their studies and are financially stable enough to return it.
Every year AAA advertises the SAP program through various means including the newspaper, Indo American Chamber of Commerce and informational posters at various Universities in India. June 15th is the last date to receive the applications and end of July the results are announced.

The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from select developing countries including India. Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant: 50% loan basis through a competitive application process once a year in June or July. The Foundation gives priority to requests for Master's level courses but is willing to consider applications for PhD programs, only in the case of outstanding students who are highly recommended for doctoral studies by their professors and who need a PhD for the fulfillment of their career objectives (academic or research oriented).
Applications for short-term courses are not considered; neither are applications from students who have already started their course of study. Preference is given to students under 30 years of age.
The Foundation assists students with tuition fees and living expenses only. The cost of travel is not included in AKF scholarships. Funding for PhD programmes is only provided for the first two years of study, after which the students are expected to find alternative sources of assistance. Half of the scholarship amount is considered as a loan, which must be reimbursed with an annual service charge of 5%. A guarantor is required to co-sign the loan agreement. The payback period is five years, starting six months after the study period funded by the Aga Khan Foundation. Students may obtain application forms as of January 1st each year from AKF offices. The Deadline for application distribution is 16th March, 2015 and the Deadline for submitting completed applications is 20th March, 2015.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides scholarships in Germany for international students for a range of postgraduate courses at German Universities which aim at providing academically educated young professionals from developing countries with further specialized studies. The Rotary Foundation offers scholarship funding through the Rotary Foundation Global Grant scholarships. The scholarship funds graduate-level coursework or research (MS/ PhD) for one to four academic years. Rotary Foundation Global Grants can be used to fund scholarships in one of Rotary’s six areas of focus: Peace and conflict prevention/resolution, Disease prevention and treatment, Water and sanitation, Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, and Economic and community development.
The minimum budget for a global grant scholarship is $30,000 which can fund the following: Passport/visa, Inoculations, Travel expenses (as specified in the grant terms and conditions), School supplies, Tuition, Room and board, Household supplies, Language training courses (but not if university admission is contingent on improvement of language skills).
